The Asian Tree Bumblebee (Bombus Hypnorum) is the most aggressive species of bee in the UK which is surprising as bumblebees tend to be passive and to only sting when they feel threatened. The Asian tree bumblebee will attack in large numbers when disturbed and likes to nest high up in loft spaces under the insulation or in bird boxes. Do not attempt to treat these bees as they can be dangerous, call Wasptec for any advice needed.
European Hornets (Vespa Crabro) once a woodland creature are nesting a lot more frequently in towns and on homes and work places. Hornets are quite placid and only sting if provoked but a nest will have over 1,000 hornets dwelling within so they do need to be controlled.

A severe reaction to stings is known as Anaphylaxis or anaphylactic shock which occurs when the victim has an allergy to the venom. If you are aware that you are allergic to stings then it is advisable to ask your doctor for an EpiPen. Difficulty breathing could be a sign of an allergic reaction and medical help should be sought immediately.
If you know you have a reaction to stings Wasptec would advise you to tell us so we can offer a priority appointment.
For wasp and hornet stings apply vinegar and take an antihistamine, for bee stings remove the sting which will be left behind and apply an ice pack. Paracetamol or Ibuprofen will help with any discomfort. Stings vary for each species, the hornet sting being the most painful but this is only because the hornets stinger is longer and able to penetrate the muscle.
